Perform Your Duty As Deputy Minister, Hasidah Tells Chong

KUCHING: Stop behaving like a boy, perform your duty as a deputy minister or else you will be dropped from the cabinet for being a failure.

That was the advice from Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali to Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

“Grow up. Don’t be too boyish complaining all the time, we don’t have time for this nonsense. We have to build the country and Sarawak. Do your job now. If there are real issues, go and see the Chief Minister. Be like other PH ministers from Peninsular Malaysia in meeting the Chief Minister if they have real issues to be solved,” Sharifah Hasidah told him.

Sharifah Hasidah added that PH had been promising the people to lower the cost of living, and blame the goods and services tax (GST). Chong had been appointed to do a very important job as Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs.

“GST has been abolished but housewives are telling me the price of necessities are going up, rice price has gone up, price of school shoes has gone up and many women are complaining that the price of facial cream they are using has also gone up. I am sure the prices of many other goods have also gone up. What is happening?

“PH says price will go down with the abolishment of GST. Chong’s task is to talk to the traders, find out what is happening. Why do they increase the prices of goods. Talk to the lower income group and ask them about the (high) price of goods.

“I have my own job and I am still doing it, and we are now seeing that our eroded rights have slowly come back. We battle Petronas in court, we impose sales tax on petroleum products. We monitor federal projects closely. These are part of my jobs. I do it. If Chong does not do his, he will fail and will be dropped from the cabinet,” she said.

Sharifah Hasidah also found it difficult to understand why Chong is so carried away with politicking, focussing his mind and soul to find fault with the Sarawak government, and try to shame the Chief Minister by putting Sarawak into disrepute.

Chong seems having nothing better to do, but to put Sarawak in bad light. He must remember that as a minister his duty is to serve the people, to find out the best way to help the people. Stop behaving like a spoilt brat complaining about others.”

She added that Chong must start behaving like a leader, and like not a loser.

“Go down to meet the people, be positive, be constructive and do your job, work together with other people to make sure the people are happy.”

Sharifah Hasidah also reminded Chong of the seven guarantees for Sarawak within one year of the (PH) coalition forming the federal government after the May 9 general election.

Sharifah Hasidah was referring to the widely distributed PH Sarawak manifesto that Chong is not showing any sign to fulfil.

They are the 20 per cent oil royalty, 10 per cent of the total oil revenue that Sarawak earns from the oil and gas as petro cash dividends for Sarawakians, RM1 billion for the repair and upgrading of dilapidated rural schools and provisions of facilities and increase staffing, a stable price support system for rubber and pepper farmers, subsidised public bus services in all major towns in Sarawak, expedite the process of identity card registration and birth certificate applications, and rectify mistakes of names, addresses and religions on identity card (IC).

Also, all religions in Sarawak to have equitable access to development in line with Article 3 and Article 11 of the Federal Constitution, solar, micro-hydro and biogas options for rural communities still without access to electricity. - BP
